The Watchtower's Real Crisis

when discussing the watchtowers financial problems, i've generally been of the opinion that they probably are not in a real financial crisis.

i've come to believe that money may be something of an issue, but its wrapped up in a much larger problem.

this came to me this morning when reading about the annual meeting.. i think the society's leadership is just plain out of ideas.

Running out of money may be connected to running out of ideas in another important way. It's a well known facet of psychology that material difficulty adversely affects cognitive and creative abilities. In other words the stress of money trouble is probably occupying so much of their thoughts that it's difficult to focus on other things, such as producing coherent and interesting content for their literature. -- SBF

True. While adversity, sorrow, and suffering, are grist for the writer's mill, his empty stomach and inability to pay the rent for his filthy, cold-water garret preoccupy him in the present moment.

Later, when the scene changes for the better, he will reflect objectively upon past difficulties, putting an inspired mind and skillful hand to pen, and that to paper.

The writers I work for are, in general, living off an outside income. Despite some past lucrative sales from a book that sold well, they are writing and writing and writing . . .

What's of interest regarding the Faithful and Discreet Slave is that Jehovah has, apparently, cut off the spirit that should inspire a perpetual outflow of food for the sheep.

Agreed. We older ones fondly remember the "richness" of the spiritual food we received; it was more than we could digest in a sitting, there being simply too much food upon Jehovah's festive board. Some of us knew personally the "minds" at Bethel and what they produced for publication. It was exciting; it was intellectually stimulating.

No wonder we thought we had The Truth. Those receptive to the Kingdom Good News, as proffered by the Society and us, as spokesmen, were amazed at our knowledge of the Scriptures.

Pretty heady stuff, but now we know better. Sadly, the balloon has been deflated.

2017 Annual Meeting

this just in from the 2017 annual meeting:.

1. watchtowers and awakes won't be released regularly, at least three watchtower and awakes per year.

6 magazines a year.. 2. a new book is being released: remain in god's love, more of an update like how they did for the what does the bible really teach book.

Something like that . . .

Another thought:

With the decrease in printed magazines -- Awake!, in particular -- where will the up-and-coming generation of malleable young minds get their university education?

A NEVER LOVE

Theresa loved Edmond more than life; her sentiments did not remain secreted away in the cloisters of her heart. A writer of no little renown, she put her mind and that overflowing heart to paper in order to give life to true love's expression:

No matter her passion, her proffering of gifts and attention upon the man she was enamored of, he paid her scant heed. An unrequited love, to be sure, an admiration from afar, though Theresa was ever in Edmond's company. His attention, his heart . . . both were in a far off place, a land she could never inhabit.

She told her impassioned story through the vanity press. The books -- delivered to her cottage on Hollands Drive -- remain, to this day, in boxes gathering dust . . . eaten through by rats. . . .

I am a writer and a copy/content editor for published and aspiring writers. I teach English and creative writing. I know that I never saw whilst in any of my pubs. I live in California, USA. Although I proofread WT publications in many languages while at Bethel (one didn't need to know the language to make corrections), I believe English galleys were always in "American."

[In the publishing world, galleys, or uncorrected proofs, or advance reading copies, or ARCs, are created by the publisher months before the final printing and release of the book. They are sent to reviewers, booksellers, bloggers and other people crucial to the critical and commercial success of the book.

Yesterday, I corrected a student's paper, substituting "gotten" for "got."
